Top honours for RSL State President Top honours for RSL State President - Wednesday, June 16, 2010

RSL Queensland President Doug Formby has been formally recognised for years of service to both veterans and the wider community, receiving the Member of the Order of Australia as part of the Queen's Birthday Honours.

Mr Formby has served as Queensland President of the RSL since 2006 following a decorated military career and experience at not-for-profit organisations such as Legacy and the RSPCA.

The lucky winner of the $3.6 million RSL Art Union Golden Treasure Prize Package draw could be among the crowd attending the public draw being held at the new Mermaid Beach apartment block on Wednesday.

RSL Art Union is encouraging members of the public to attend the draw and view this magnificent complex.

In its 53 year history, funds raised by the RSL Art Union have contributed to the development and maintenance of RSL nursing homes and retirement complexes as well as providing welfare and advocacy for ex-servicemen and women and their families.

RSL Queensland is pleased to confirm that the Australian Government has delivered on several veterans’ affairs issues campaigned for by the League in the recent Federal Budget.

As a result of a 2008 report submitted by the Returned & Services League of Australia in response to the Clarke Review and several individual advocacy efforts by RSL Queensland members on behalf of the League, two key veterans’ affairs issues have been addressed.

RSL launches online Defence Sub Branch RSL launches online Defence Sub Branch - Wednesday, May 12, 2010

The RSL has launched an online sub branch to better service its defence force membership by breaking down the physical barriers between RSL sub branches and serving men and women.

The RSL Defence Sub Branch was unveiled in Canberra by RSL National President Rear Admiral Ken Doolan AO RAN (Retd) and Chief of the Defence Force Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston AC AFC and is aimed at making RSL support more accessible for current serving members and their families.

Thousands of Brisbane residents turned up to honour our ANZACs at the inaugural RSL ANZAC Eve Concert with QSO on Saturday, April 24.

Audience members attending the free community event at Suncorp Piazza spilled out the doors to watch the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) perform an ANZAC-inspired musical programme alongside several guest artists.
