RSL (Queensland Branch) has created the RSL Rainforest in the George Mansford Rainforest Reserve at Cape Tribulation, just north of Cairns.
In conjunction with the Australian Rainforest Foundation (ARF), it is part of 200 acres of rare tropical rainforest purchased in 2007.
Approximately 40 percent of the land had previously been cleared for farming.
RSL (Queensland Branch) has pledged its support to reinstate this unique Australian rainforest to preserve its beauty for future generations.
This rainforest provides a unique opportunity for members of the public to honour the sacrifices of those who have served, fought and died for our country.
Every tree purchased for the RSL Rainforest will result in a financial contribution to the RSL in support of its vital pensions and welfare work for ex-serving and currently serving Australian Defence Force personnel.
As part of the rainforest, there will be a 500 metre Salute to Service Walk, which allows for special memorial trees to be planted in honour for those who have served.
These trees are GPS marked for the purchaser so they can monitor the growth of their living memorial.
An inscribed plaque of dedication is also placed on the trees in memory of the member of the Australian Defence Force being honoured.
