About the Poppy Appeal
To raise funds for soldiers returning from World War I, the Poppy Appeal was started by the RSL in Australia in 1921.
Today the Red Poppy is an international symbol of sacrifice and remembrance, to be worn on Remembrance Day, November 11.
To remember those sacrifices symbolised by the Red Poppy, a minute’s silence is observed each year on the 11th hour, of the 11th day of the 11th month.
