WHAT IS THE RSL?
The Returned & Services League of Australia (RSL) is a totally independent apolitical organisation run by its members, for its members.

The League in Queensland (separate to RSL Clubs) aims to assist all veterans, current and former members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF), and their dependants with obtaining disability pensions, compensation payments, health and community services, welfare services, and income support payments and treatment.

The RSL remains the largest ex-service organisation in Australia with an increasing number of younger and current serving ADF personnel coming on board.

DID YOU KNOW?
The wide range of community groups the RSL works closely with everyday?
These include all ex-serving and current Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel, their children, families, other ex-service organisations, schools, and the wider community.

The RSL ‘League’ is different to the familiar RSL ‘Clubs’?
In Queensland, most RSL Clubs are separate to the League itself, often private entities owned by an independent company. They trade under the RSL name and pay a licensing fee to the League which goes towards funding welfare initiatives and youth activities in the local RSL sub branch area.

You don’t need to have served in the ADF to be part of the RSL?
If you have spare time and would like to support your local RSL sub branch, you can become part of your local RSL Citizens’ Auxiliary program. You can assist your sub branch in a number of ways; through poppy sales, ANZAC Day badge sales, Christmas gift wrapping, welfare, social activities, sub branch promotion, and involvement in local festivals.

The RSL has a strong focus on Australia’s youth?
From developing education material for school children to promoting exceptional youth programs, the RSL’s focus on youth remains strong. Your local RSL sub branch may be heavily involved in the following statewide programs:

1.      The RSL Girl in a Million Quest fosters the development of young women as entrants raise funds for the care and well being of Queensland veterans.

2.      The RSL Cadet of the Year program is open to current ADF cadets looking for an opportunity to develop their personal and military skills.

3.      RSL Community Link is an eternal remembrance program which encourages youth and adults to take part in RSL traditions and community projects including ANZAC Day parades, Remembrance Day services and other commemorative events.
