It’s that time of the year again for the RSL Poppy Appeal. The launch begins on October 28 and will be held at ANZAC Square in Brisbane’s CBD at 11:30am.
As a part of the Poppy Appeal, and to commemorate Remembrance Day, each and every member of the Australian Defence Force, currently serving overseas will receive a post card with a message of thanks. In its first year, the RSL Poppy Appeal Post Card program is set for success. Schools from around the state are encouraging students to participate in the program.
Over 5,000 cards will be sent to Operation Slipper - Afghanistan, Operation Slipper - Middle East, Operation Palate 11, Boarder protection - Operation Resolute, East Timor - Operation Astute, Operation Tower, Egypt Operation Mazurka, Iraq Operation River Bank, Middle East, Operation Paladin, Solomon Islands Operation Anode and Sudan Operation Azure.
The card features Alexander, Isabella and Keenan Whitwam whose father, Terry, has been serving in Afghanistan since mid June 2011, and is expected back in March in 2012. With Terry’s extended absence from home, the card will be warmly received.
The Poppy Appeal Launch is a free event that is open to the public. All are welcome to attend.
