The Bulimba Festival was held on Sunday, August 28, after a five year absence.
Organised and coordinated by RSL (Queensland Branch) the six-hour event featured an array of market stalls, food, fashion and music.
The free community festival helped to reinvigorate the area, showcasing what local restaurants, bars, cafes and stores have on offer.
Aussie rock icons Mental as Anything and Ross Wilson from Mondo Rock and Daddy Cool headlined the reborn event, entertaining a crowd of thousands.
Originally called ‘Bulimba Carnival’, the annual festival would regularly draw crowds of up to 15,000. The 2011 event saw more than 30,000 people make their way down to Oxford Street to join in on the festivities.
Brisbane City Councillor for the Morningside Ward, Shayne Sutton said that these types of events are important in bringing the community together.
“The community has been waiting for the Bulimba Festival to come back for some time now,” Cr Sutton said.
“There’s a fabulous turn out, and I think that it has gone really well”.
Councillor Sutton also thanked the RSL (Queensland Branch) for its efforts.
“I thank the RSL for bringing the Bulimba Festival back,” Cr Sutton said.
All proceeds raised from the event will go to the RSL to support the serving and ex-serving community in Queensland.
