The Returned and Services League (Queensland Branch) has jumped on deck to assist Grant with his event ‘Mates Helping Mates’ a barbeque which aims to attract a crowd of up to 1000 homeless people this Sunday, July 17 from 10am-4pm at Musgrave Park in Brisbane.

Since its inception in 1916, the Returned and Services League of Australia has always been about 'Mates helping Mates'. While some of you may know him as ‘Grant the polite guy’, from his highly publicised blog, the Returned and Services League know him as another mate needing a hand. Grant, a homeless veteran himself, will be holding an open invitation barbecue in Musgrave Park this weekend. Quite fittingly Grant has named the event ‘Mates Helping Mates’.

The barbeque is primarily being held for Brisbane’s homeless community. Grant is expecting up to 1000 homeless people to attend, however he would also like the broader public to come along so is catering for up to 2500 people.

After learning of Grant’s efforts to feed the Brisbane’s homeless, the league felt compelled to assist and has donated funds and personnel towards the event.

The RSL offers crisis accommodation for veterans, their dependants and where possible the broader community, who are at risk of or currently experiencing homelessness in Queensland. With three locations across Queensland, the league hopes that Grant’s knowledge of these services will spread the word amongst the homeless veteran community.
