RSL (Queensland Branch) has provided support to the International Air Cadet Exchange (IACE) program with a financial donation.
The IACE program came into fruition in 1947 with the exchange of air cadets between Canada and the United Kingdom. Today the program involves over 20 nations from around the world. Taking place in July and August, the program involves several hundred participants over a 2-3 week period.
RSL State President, Mr Terry Meehan believes that the program is a perfect fit in the RSL’s commitment to youth.
“It is within the RSL’s charter to foster the development of Australia’s youth. By sponsoring the International Air Cadet Exchange, the league had an opportunity to support youth, but also the future of the defence force,” Mr Meehan said.
Mr Meehan also feels that the program is important as a high number of participants continue on to join the Air Force.
“I encourage the public to support the program, as its success can be seen in the number of participants from the Australian Defence Force Cadets that move onto join the Australian Defence Force, this is approximately 17%,” Mr Meehan said.
Director of International & Public Air Cadet Affairs, Wing Commander Mr Tony Lee, who personally coordinates the IACE Inbound Tour, said it relies heavily on the financial support the community to cover the expenses of the program.
“The longevity of the program is reliant upon the goodwill and sponsorship that we are able to secure,” Mr Lee said.
