Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a form of anxiety that develops in some people after they have experienced or witnessed a traumatic event. This trauma might be associated with a dangerous, shocking or frightening event such as war or torture; physical or sexual assault; natural disaster or threat to their safety or safety of those around them.

It is normal for stressful experiences to cause strong feelings of sadness, fear, anger or hopelessness, with these feelings often becoming less severe as a person works through their thoughts. It is when these feelings become more intense or continue for more than four weeks that a person should seek assistance from a doctor or health professional.
