Media Statement 8 March 2024

A statement from RSL Queensland about recent reporting around an Acknowledgement to Country.

This story has been made about Anzac Day. It is not about Anzac Day.

Delivering an Acknowledgement of Country has always been, and remains, the discretion of the individual RSL member or organisation that is putting on an event, ceremony or service.

There are a variety of versions of Acknowledgements of Country in use across Australia, as well as differing views on the content, structure and worth.

Why come up with a new version? Because some of our members wanted a veteran centric option.

What has changed? Nothing has changed apart from adding a veteran centric option.
